Thule VeloCompact…what Every Self-Respecting SUV Is Crying Out For

Thule’s VeloCompact makes its SA debut

Issued by Roadworx

Thule’s new VeloCompact bike carrier will soon reach the South African market, a revolutionary product which at the same time introduces local cyclists to the brand’s next-generation tow ball coupling – the key to the VeloCompact’s impressive payload.

Intensive internal testing has demonstrated that the new four-sided coupling clamps the bike rack firmly to the ball for a rock-steady grip, providing perfect stability – even when fitted with an optional adaptor to increase carrying capacity of the three-bike version to an impressive four bicycles. The VeloCompact is the first Thule rack to be equipped with this coupling, an added advantage of which is its self-levelling action, and once aligned the operator simply locks the rack firmly in place with the ergonomically-shaped tightening handle.

Then it’s simply a case of slotting the bikes onto the runners, and fastening the wheels in place with the pump buckles, and clamping the frames to the (detachable) bike arms. The VeloCompact easily accommodates bikes of most shapes and sizes, irrespective of wheelbase, thanks to the extendable wheel holders. When not in use, they slide inward and contribute to the narrow overall width.

Other key features of the VeloCompact include:

  • Foot pedal tilt for easy access to the vehicle’s luggage compartment
  • Folds flat for easy storage – will fit inside the boot of most cars
  • Pre-assembled – no tools required
  • Lock your bikes to the carrier, and the carrier to the tow bar
  • City Crash test compliant, TüV approved, EuroBE type approved

“The VeloCompact, even by Thule’s standards, is a particularly smart design,” says Richard Downey, Managing Director of Thule Cargo and Sport, the local agent for all Thule products. “The new coupling is a game-changer, and the VeloCompact is a very smart investment for cycling families who want a rack that can grow with their needs.”
